The design is based on the lens shape sampled from a catalogue of a historical American eyeglass manufacturer published in 1935. This lens shape, which took several seasons to incorporate into the frame design, is extremely distinctive and difficult to tell the difference between left and right at first glance.

The unique balance of the two-bridge, under-endpiece front leads to the under-temple of the 194, completing the unique overall image.
